Oklahoma Driver License and State ID Now Available in Apple Wallet

OKLAHOMA CITY, OKLA. – Oklahomans can now add their eligible Oklahoma Driver License or State ID to Apple Wallet, providing a secure and convenient way to present and verify their identity or age using an iPhone or Apple Watch.

“Making Oklahoma a Top Ten state means embracing innovation and delivering government services that keep pace with the people we serve,” said Governor Kevin Stitt. “Oklahoma ID in Apple Wallet is another step forward in modernizing state government and putting technology to work for Oklahomans.”

Oklahoma ID in Apple Wallet can be presented at participating Transportation Security Administration checkpoints at Tulsa International Airport, OKC Will Rogers International Airport, Stillwater Regional Airport and Lawton-Fort Sill Regional Airport, as well as at more than 250 airports nationwide. Acceptance may vary by airport, terminal and checkpoint. It can also be presented in-person at participating businesses and in supported apps.

Service Oklahoma is working with Apple, the Oklahoma Alcoholic Beverage Laws Enforcement Commission and other public- and private-sector organizations to expand secure acceptance across the state. This includes working with law enforcement partners, including the Oklahoma Highway Patrol, to support the future ability to securely verify ISO (International Organization for Standardization) compliant IDs.

Helping Oklahoma Businesses Accept IDs in Apple Wallet

Businesses interested in accepting ID in Apple Wallet and other ISO compliant IDs can use Oklahoma Reader, a free app available for compatible devices, without purchasing additional hardware. At launch, the app allows businesses to seamlessly and securely verify a customer’s age by only sharing the information that’s being requested.

The Oklahoma Reader does not collect or store customer data or maintain a record of the verification transaction.

Businesses can learn more about accepting Oklahoma ID in Apple Wallet at service.ok.gov/DigitalIDAcceptance. Additional resources, including a one-page overview, setup guidance and frequently asked questions, will also be available to help businesses prepare to accept Oklahoma ID in Apple Wallet.

“We are working with Service Oklahoma to help alcoholic beverage establishments and tobacco and nicotine retailers prepare to accept Oklahoma ID in Apple Wallet beginning Sept. 14,” said Lori Carter, Assistant Director of the Oklahoma Alcoholic Beverage Laws Enforcement (ABLE) Commission. “Secure electronic verification gives businesses another reliable way to confirm a customer’s age and help prevent underage sales.” 

Easy, Secure and Private Way to Present an ID

Oklahoma ID in Apple Wallet uses the privacy and security features built into iPhone and Apple Watch to help protect customers’ identity and personal information.

When presenting their Oklahoma ID in Apple Wallet, customers will hold their iPhone or Apple Watch near a reader. From there, a customer’s device will display what information is being requested, and they can review before deciding whether to share it. Only the requested information is provided once a customer authorizes the release using Face ID or Touch ID. Customers do not need to unlock, show or hand over their device to present an ID in Wallet.

Neither Apple nor Service Oklahoma can see when, where or to whom a customer presents their Oklahoma ID in Apple Wallet.

When a customer adds an Oklahoma ID to Apple Wallet, Service Oklahoma receives only the information needed to verify the customer’s identity and approve or deny the request. Information is also encrypted on a user’s device so Apple cannot access it, and it is only shared with others when a user chooses to present it.

Oklahoma ID in Apple Wallet is an optional digital companion to a physical Oklahoma Driver License or State ID, not a replacement. Oklahomans must continue to carry their physical credential, including while driving and anywhere a physical credential may still be required.

How to Add and Use an Oklahoma ID to Apple Wallet

To add an eligible Oklahoma Driver License or State ID to an iPhone and Apple Watch:

1. Open the Apple Wallet app on an iPhone.
2. Tap the Add (+) button.
3. Tap Driver’s License or ID and choose Oklahoma.
4. Choose whether to add the ID to the iPhone only or to both the iPhone and paired Apple Watch.
5. Follow the onscreen instructions to scan the front and back of the Oklahoma Driver License or State ID and complete the verification process.

After the request is approved, the ID will appear in Apple Wallet and will be ready for use. Customers must be 18 years or older, have an eligible Oklahoma Driver License or State ID and use a compatible device with the required operating system. There is no cost to add or use Oklahoma ID in Apple Wallet. Additional eligibility information, device requirements, frequently asked questions and setup instructions are available at service.ok.gov/Apple.

Oklahoma ID in Apple Wallet is separate from the former Oklahoma Mobile ID app, which was decommissioned in 2024. Customers who previously used the Oklahoma Mobile ID app will need to complete a new enrollment through Apple Wallet.
